Redbox
Redbox Days of Deals was a series of campaigns that created a fun brand engagement, enticing users to visit daily for a chance to win discounts on games and movies. Through this mobile experience, users opted in via text message and were given a chance to ‘spin the box’ and to ‘spin the popcorn’ to redeem their reward.
Both experiences use HTML5, CSS animations, SVG animations, jQuery and TweenMax to create the illusion of a 3D box spinning, and opening to reveal an offer. The 3D box was created using CSS, and the spinning effect was created using jQuery Mobile’s swipe functionality that was also integrated with TweenMax. Using jQuery, an EventListener with an webkitAnimationEnd function was used to detect when the animation was done spinning. Upon the animation’s end, I triggered a slide up animation with the revealed offer.
Redbox Days of Deals was a mobile only experience and worked across all mobile devices, expect for Windows phones. Desktop users were redirected to a mobile trigger page where they could enter their mobile number to receive a text to the experience.
Redbox IQ is a Trivia game that users play to earn discounts on movie and game rentals. The front-end functionality for the trivia game was built entirely in jQuery, HTML5, and CSS3. No frameworks were used to build this experience. After this campaign was done, I refactored my code and turned my triviagame.js file into a plugin with the help of my peers. The plugin is now the core to our trivia game repos. This was a mobile only experience and worked across all mobile devices, expect for Windows phones. Desktop users were redirected to a mobile only page where they were asked to visit the link on their Mobile Device.
